Abstract

This thesis investigates technology as a key concept in which hopes and disappointments are loaded, as well as its role in changing the mindset of human beings, and the creation of new values. By exploring concepts from the areas of politics and economics, a conceptual framework begins to be created that enables the question of whether subjects are assimilating machinic values. Alongside this question, the corporate interests behind the development of new technologies and their social effects are also explored. The posing of these questions aims to explore projects that appropriate the strategies of these disciplines to resist increasing precarity, mechanisation and dehumanisation.
This thesis also shows the practical and conceptual research behind PHC (Painfully Human Chatbot) a chatbot that against its main goal, implements time awareness and tiredness, and changes its performance level depending on it. This artistic piece aims to criticise technology designed with a clear corporate interest, and aims to provoke a reflection on the machinic values that humans are increasingly assimilating, such as constant availability or hyperproduction. It also raises the question of whether the development of new technologies is serving society as imagined.</ns1:description>
