Zusammenfassung
Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit befasst sich aus sozio-kultureller und kunsthistorischer Sicht mit der Symbolik des Haares und dessen Bedeutung als Mittel der Selbst- und Fremdinszenierung.
Einleitend wird das Haar als kommunikativer Aspekt und als Basis zwischenmenschlichen Handelns dargelegt. Weitere Grundlage stellt eine Betrachtung der europäischen Kulturgeschichte der Haarmoden von der Antike bis zum Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts dar. Innerhalb dieser finden Frisur-Stile aus allen Epochen, Moden aus dem Bereich der Jugendkulturen, spirituell motivierte Ausprägungen verschiedener Religionen sowie der Aspekt des Haar-Verlustes Erwähnung. Im Anschluss werden künstlerische Positionen aus den Bereichen Selbstportrait und Performance-Kunst betrachtet, in denen dem Haar eine spezielle Bedeutung zukommt. Die Arbeit stellt aus aktueller Sicht einen kunst- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Überblick zu zu einem in der Regel nicht auffälligen, aber doch symbolisch stark aufgeladenen Teil des menschlichen Körpers dar.
Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with socio-cultural and art-historical aspects of the symbolism of hair and with its significance as a means of self- and extraneous staging.
Initially, the hair is presented as a communicative means and as a basis for interpersonal action. Another basis of this research is a review of the European cultural history of hairstyles from antiquity to the beginning of the 21st century. Fashions from the areas of youth culture, spiritually motivated manifestations of hair within different religions as well as the traumatizing loss of hair are analyzed. Another focus is the consideration of artistic positions, from the realms of self-portrait and performance art, in which hair is of particular importance. From a current perspective this provides an overview of the art and culture of an inconspicuous but heavily symbolic part of the human body.
